Seventh grade

Mr. Damanda plans to focus his students’ attention on the riddles in The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, a popular fantasy on the instructional level for his class. He has anticipated that his students have enough interest and prior knowledge to understand the story, and he wants them to write riddles of their own after they have read the chapter. As he starts his lesson, he gives his students a model of a riddle.

Mr. Damanda’s Model
You can waste me or save me.
I’m gone in a flash.
Some say that I’m money,
But never in cash.
You’re late if you’ve lost track of me.
I fly when life’s fun.
Beware – once you’ve spent me,
I’m forever done,
You can’t get me back.
