Mr. Cosby plans to focus his students’ attention on the descriptive writing in A Night to Remember by Walter Lord, a nonfiction text on the independent level for his class. He has anticipated that his students have enough prior knowledge to understand the story, and he wants them to write a descriptive piece of their own as they are reading the book. As he starts his lesson, he gives his students three levels of descriptions to serve as models while they read and write.
